One of the most well-known and easily recognizable characters in the star trek universe is the Vulcan First Officer of the starship U.S.S. Enterprise, Spock. Spock's father, Sarek, was a high-ranking Vulcan councilman and his mother, Amanda Grayson, was a human schoolteacher. As a result, Spock fought to suppress his emotional human nature, from his overly-logical Vulcan half, having decided to live as a Vulcan. Try as he may to have pushed back his feelings, Spock often was capable of great feelings of friendship for his fellow crew members, particularly Dr. "Bones" McCoy and captain kirk.
