One last hurrah of decadence before the season of Lent leading up to easter Sunday, Mardi Gras (French for "Fat Tuesday") is the famed New Orleans celebration complete with floats, costumes, and tons of food.
As per tradition, every reveler in the Mardi Gras parade, whether they be a spectator or a part of the parade itself, wears a mask. Often, these masks are in the traditional Mardi Gras jewel tones of purple, green, and bright gold. Pick up traditional, masquerade style masks embellished with sequins and feathers in these traditional colors and matching sets of favor beads to drape yourself with. Also available are tall, feathered and sequined headdresses in purple, green, and gold.
Not everyone wears traditional Mardi Gras masks or brightly colored Jester costumes for the parade. Several well-known pop culture figures make an appearance, such as super heroes like batman, superman, and wonder woman or even figures from literature and movies like the wizard of oz.
Whether you're traveling to New Orleans or not for a Mardi Gras parade, you can celebrate in your own way. Wear some brightly colored Mardi Gras beads to the office and treat yourself to an extra large lunch!
